Regional Development and Foresight

Päijät-Häme Regional Council is responsible for the preparation of development plans for its own region, in co-operation with municipalities, universities and other public and private actors. It has two main tasks: to prepare a regional land use plan and to distribute the European Union’s regional development funds. In addition, the Regional Council is responsible for supervising the interests of the region and co-ordinating co-operation between the municipalities.

The regional development unit of the Regional Council co-ordinates a four-year (the term of city councils) strategy for the region and, under the strategy, grants the European Union’s regional development funds (ERDF) together with Häme ELY Centre. Strategic foresight and participatory methods are applied in this preparation work.
