Finland, a leader in circular economy initiatives, will take the spotlight at the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) in April. The event, organized by Sitra, attracts decision-makers, experts, and investors worldwide. Finland will showcase new innovations and cooperation models at the Forum, including participation from the Päijät-Häme region (Lahti region). WCEF, happening from April 15 to 18, 2024, in Brussels, highlights impactful circular solutions globally, with open online participation for all.

The winning concept for circularity and public-private partnerships  – Tools for circular economy 

Finland’s Accelerator Session on April 17 at the Nordic Stage in Brussels will focus on circularity and public-private partnerships. Organized by Helsinki-Uusimaa Circular Valley, it shares successful models for innovation ecosystems and partnerships driving scalable circular solutions.

Finnish cities and regional development companies play crucial roles in supporting these initiatives, fostering regional business cooperation. The session highlights examples of collaborative circular solutions from various regions and companies.

  • We’re delighted to present Carbonade’s pilot plant from the Lahti region, showcasing practical insights into successful public-private collaboration. They’ll discuss how this collaboration supports industrial symbiosis, emphasizing carbon dioxide utilization and storage in the precast concrete industry, says Juha Hertsi, Director of Development.

Finnish circular innovations and cooperation possibilities

At the World Circular Economy Forum 2024 expo, global circular economy solutions take centre stage. Finland presents its innovations under the theme “Local Solutions Are Born Here” at the Finland stand. Visitors can explore business solutions, public sector roles, innovation ecosystems, and the materials revolution. Companies like Aircohol, Borealis, Carbofex, Carbonaide, Emmy, Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto (municipal waste company), Make a BIM, Niimaar, Rester, Twice, Verte and Wastewise Group will showcase their circular economy innovations.

The Finnish programme for the WCEF exhibition and Accelerator Session has been designed in cooperation of the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Environment,  the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, Business Finland, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the development company Posintra, the Regional Councils of Häme, Pirkanmaa, Päijät-Häme and Southwest Finland and Business Tampere, Circular Pirkanmaa, Turku University of Applied Sciences and the  cities of Turku and Paimio.
