CECI – Citizen Involvement in Circular Economy Implementation
CECI – Citizen involvement in circular economy implementation -project will enhance circular economy solutions focusing especially in sharing economy. The project content is in line with the objectives of the EU Circular Economy Package. It will develop the local, regional and national cooperation, as well as support the regions to generate circular economy strategies and solutions, where citizens have a key role.
Päijät-Häme region is represented through the project’s lead partner Lahti University of Applied Sciences and the Regional Council of Päijät-Häme. Circular economy has been identified as almost three billion business potential in Finland. The sharing economy is a global emerging trend of circular economy, offering substantial business opportunities, which may be improved on with international cooperation. Päijät-Häme region is a pioneer in advanced waste management and industrial symbiosis. The participating countries are Finland, France, Belgium, Spain, Bulgaria and Czech Republic, sharing a strong interest to exchange knowledge of services and citizen involvement in circular economy.
With the help of CECI, the partner regions will develop knowledge on the importance of citizens in circular economy, and gain expertise in implementing new solutions. Furthermore, CECI will increase public awareness to create a demand for sustainable services. The changes in consumption patterns will generate circular economy business opportunities, green growth and jobs.
Regional Council of Päijät-Häme will focus on policy design, implementation and monitoring. We will benchmark good practices of managing and use of structural funds in other regions. The role of Regional Council of Päijät-Häme is also implementation of new projects, change in the management of the policy instrument and change in the strategic focus of the policy instrument.
The four-year long project started in August 2019 with a total budget of 1,5 million Euros, the share of Päijät-Häme region is nearly 0,5 million.
